Prescribed burning

No doubt about it--a wildfire can destroy property and threaten life, especially if it strikes in an overgrown or unmanaged forest. However, the careful use of prescribed fire can actually improve forest ecosystem health and protect life and property.

The Department’s Forestry Division provides landowners and forest managers with information about using prescribed fire to improve timber stands and funding to help rural communities protect themselves from fire.
