Project Description
Area Name:
Spring Fork Lake Access
Location:
The lake is located in Pettis County, Missouri (T44N, R21W, Section 21) about 10 miles south of Sedalia. From US Hwy 50 in Sedalia, go south on US Hwy 65 about 9 miles, turn left on State Route V, go east about 1.2 miles, turn right on Spring Fork Road, and then go south and east about 1.2 miles to the lake road entrance (see the attached vicinity map). The access is located on the northeastern shoreline of the lake, near the principal spillway.
Area Size:
The lake is ~115 acres in size. The “footprint” of the development will be approximately 1.5 acres.
Control/Ownership:
Spring Fork Lake is owned by the Sedalia Water Department. The lake is managed in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) under the terms of a July 23, 2004 Community Assistance Program agreement with the City of Sedalia, Board of Public Works.
Facilities Development:
The entrance road will be widened to 20', provided with proper drainage, and surfaced with aggregate. The parking area will be upgraded, expanded to accommodate at least 12 vehicles with trailers, and surfaced with aggregate. A 16' wide, reinforced concrete boat ramp will be constructed. A single privy, 18' x 36' floating fishing dock, concrete parking spaces for two vehicles with trailers, and concrete connecting walkways, all meeting Americans with Disabilities Act standards, will also be constructed. Areas disturbed by construction activities will be seeded and mulched. See the attached site plan.
The Department of Conservation has developed the construction plans, and the plans have been approved by the City of Sedalia, Board of Public Works. The Department will contract for and supervise the construction of the facilities.

Availability to Users:
Spring Fork Lake was constructed in 1925. Any facilities constructed in the past are gone or seriously deteriorated. The lake has continued to be used by local anglers despite its lack of facilities. Boating and fishing access has been seriously hampered by a rough entrance road, an inadequate parking area, and the lack of an actual boat ramp and other public use facilities. The planned developments will improve the area’s use, appearance and safety, and the improved public use area will better accommodate boaters, anglers and disabled users.
